The Netgear Orbi is a Mesh Wi-Fi system that will take over the user’s Wi-Fi and provide an enhanced and exceeding version of the traditional Wi-Fi network.

Power LED

  • The Power LED is located above the Power On/Off button on the rear panel.
  • Light turns solid green that will mean that the power is on.
  • Light turns solid amber, the router or satellite will be rebooting.
  • Light is blinking amber, the mesh Wi-Fi system will be resetting to factory default settings.
  • Light will be blinking red, the firmware is corrupted.
  • When it’s Off - Power is not supplied.

Router ring LED

  • The ring LED is located on the top.
    Solid white - The router is booting.
    When it’s Off - The router finished booting and is working normally.
  • Blinking white - The router is resetting to factory settings.
  • Blinking amber - The router cannot connect to the Internet
  • Blinking blue and magenta. The Internet connection is blocked because you set up Internet traffic metering and reached the maximum allowed amount of Internet traffic.

Satellite ring

  • The ring LED is located on the top.

  • Solid white - The satellite is booting.
  • When it’s Off - The satellite finished booting and is working normally.
  • Blue for 10 seconds - The connection between the router and the satellite is good.
  • Amber for 10 seconds - The connection between the router and the satellite is fair.
  • Blinking magenta - The satellite is not connected to the router.
  • Magenta for 10 seconds - The satellite cannot get an IP address from the router. Router ring and satellite ring during sync The ring LEDs are located on the top.
  • Blinking white - The Sync button was pressed.
  • Blue for 3 seconds - The sync between the router and satellite succeeded.
  • Magenta for 3 seconds - The router and satellite failed to sync.

Connect the Netgear Orbi to your router:

  • Unplug the modem from its power source but leave it connected to the wall jack for the internet service. Now, connect the modem to the WAN port of the router using an Ethernet cable.
  • Connect the power adapter of the router to the power source and turn it on.
  • If the Power LED does not light, press the Power On/Off button on the rear panel of the router.
  • Now, place the satellite wherever deemed necessary or as per the user’s wish.
  • For ideal coverage, the user can place the satellite in the middle of the house for the best coverage.
  • Connect the satellite to a power source. If the Power LED on the back of the satellite does not light, press the Power On/Off button.
  • Wait for the satellite’s ring LED to light solid white, then pulse white, and then pulse magenta. The satellite’s ring LED might pulse magenta for up to one minute while the satellite attempts to sync with the Orbi router.
  • If you see the satellite’s LED ring is still pulsing magenta after one minute, try moving the satellite closer to the router. Press Sync button on the back of the router and on the back of the satellite simultaneously.

Now, let’s connect to the Network.

Wired Connection

  • You can connect your computer to the router using an Ethernet cable and join the router’s local area network (LAN).

  • To connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable:
  • Make sure that the router is receiving power (its Power LED is turned on).
  • Connect an Ethernet cable to an Ethernet port on your computer.
  • Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to one of the Ethernet ports.
  • Your computer connects to the Local Area Network (LAN). A message might display on your computer screen to notify you that an Ethernet cable is connected.

Wi-Fi Connection

To find and select the Wi-Fi network:

  • Make sure that the router or satellite is receiving power (its Power LED is on).

  • On your Wi-Fi-enabled computer or mobile device, find and select the Wi-Fi network.
  • The Wi-Fi network name is on the router label. The Wi-Fi network name is the same for the router and the Orbi satellite.

Note: If you bought the router and the satellite separately, their default Wi-Fi network names are different.

  • Join the Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password. The password is on the router label.
  • Your Wi-Fi-enabled computer or mobile device connects to the Wi-Fi network.

Log In to Your Router and Add Satellites to Your Network

You can use the router web interface to add a satellite to your Orbi network.
  • To add a satellite to your Orbi network using the router web interface:
  • Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your Orbi network.
  • Enter orbilogin.com. A login window opens.
  • Enter the router admin user name and password. The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
  • The admin login page will display.
    Select Add Orbi Satellite. The Place Your Satellite page displays.
  • Follow the instructions about where to place your satellite in your house.
  • Connect the satellite to a power source.
  • If the Power LED on the back of the satellite does not light, press the Power On/Off button.
  • Click the Next button.

Wait about two minutes for the satellite’s ring LED to light solid white.

  • Press the Sync button on the satellite.
  • The satellite’s ring LED pulses white.
  • Click the Sync button in the router web interface. The router attempts to sync with the satellite.

The satellite’s ring LED lights one of the following colors for about three minutes and then turns off:

  • Blue - The Orbi router and satellite successfully synced, and the connection between the router and satellite is good.
  • Amber. The Orbi router and satellite successfully synced, and the connection between the router and satellite is fair. Consider moving the Orbi satellite closer to the Orbi router.
  • Magenta. The Orbi router and satellite failed to sync. Move the satellite closer to the router and try again.
